Client wanted an invitation screen for their Discord server that felt unique, inviting, and aligned with their brand identity. Originally envisioned as a static image, the project evolved into a dynamic 3D animated scene featuring sleek chrome typography against an animated ocean backdrop.
The goal of this project was to design an engaging invitation screen for a client’s Discord server, prominently featured during their Twitch stream invitations. The design needed to reflect the client’s brand while creating an inviting atmosphere for their streaming audience. Initially envisioned as a static image, the project evolved into an exciting opportunity to craft a 3D animated sequence.
This was a client-requested project, building on a history of successful collaborations. While the client originally wanted a static design, the suggestion to create an animated scene was a unique twist. It also posed a personal challenge, as this was the first time I ventured into 3D animation, adding an extra layer of creativity and learning.
The process began with thorough discussions to identify the client’s needs and vision. Inspired by the “Coconut Beach” theme, I proposed a 3D animated ocean scene featuring the server’s logo. I sketched initial concepts, presenting options like waves within the logo text versus waves in the background. Collaborating with the client, we chose the latter for its visual impact.
Blender, a 3D animation tool, became my primary software for this project. As a first-time user, I dedicated time to learning its features, experimenting with lighting, materials, and animation techniques. The solo nature of this project allowed for close collaboration with the client, ensuring that each iteration brought us closer to the ideal result.
The prototyping phase involved creating multiple renders of potential designs, experimenting with fonts, skylines, sunsets, and lighting effects. Screenshots and renders were shared regularly with the client, whose feedback guided the iterative process. Together, we fine-tuned the design to align with their vision.
Navigating Blender as a novice was challenging but rewarding. Each iteration not only refined the animation but also deepened my technical skills. The collaborative feedback loop ensured the evolving design resonated with the client’s audience and expectations.
The final design is a 3D animated scene featuring sleek silver chrome typography spelling out “Coconut Beach.” The text stands against a vibrant animated ocean backdrop, bringing the server’s name to life. The shimmering waves and polished logo create an immersive and dynamic invitation screen.
The end product exceeded the client’s initial request for a static image. The animated GIF added an unexpected layer of engagement and sophistication, delighting the client and their audience. For me, this project was a milestone, blending traditional design principles with the exciting realm of 3D animation and setting a new standard for future creative endeavors.
Following the success of the animated invitation screen, the client requested a social media post to announce that the Discord invitation screen was live. The goal was to create an eye-catching design that would seamlessly fit the brand while informing their audience about the new feature. For this second iteration, the client requested the words “Welcome to Coconut Beach” displayed on a wavy plane, evoking the same oceanic theme.
The design incorporated a fluid, wavy animation that gave the text a sense of motion, as if it were part of the ocean itself. By keeping the aesthetic consistent with the original invitation screen, the social media post served as a cohesive extension of the client’s brand identity. The final design was visually appealing and aligned perfectly with the overall theme, encouraging followers to engage with the server and join the community.
